What is "Instrumental / Samples Source"?
What is "Instrumental / Samples Source"?
Updated yesterday

When distributing your music through Rapchat, you must provide accurate metadata for the Instrumental / Samples source. This ensures your song is sent to the appropriate platforms and that royalties are properly allocated.

Selecting the Right Instrumental / Samples Source

In the Instrumental / Samples property, choose the option that best describes the source of your beat:

1. Non-Exclusive License (Default)

  • Choose this if you purchased a non-exclusive license from a producer or used a beat that was free.

  • This is the default option since non-exclusive licenses are the most common.

  • We are not allowed to send songs with non-exclusive beats or samples to UGC (User-Generated Content) platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, or Snapchat. These platforms generate royalties that could be incorrectly assigned to other artists using the same beat.

2. Exclusive License

  • Only select this option if you purchased an exclusive license for the beat, meaning no other artists can use it. Also, choose this if you created the beat yourself.

  • If you are not sure—you probably have a non-exlusive license. For example, when you buy a beat from Beatstars, you typically have to pay quite a bit more to get exclusive ownership.

IMPORTANT: Only mark "Exclusive License" if you actually own an exclusive license. Misrepresenting ownership can lead to a song takedown or restriction from Rapchat Distro.

3. Created with AI

  • Select this option if the beat was generated using AI.

Why does this matter?

Properly categorizing your beat ensures your music is sent only to platforms that support its licensing terms. For example, non-exclusive beats cannot be sent to UGC platforms due to potential copyright conflicts.

By selecting the correct option, you help avoid distribution issues and ensure that your royalties are correctly assigned.
