How to migrate from Rapchat Distro to DistroKid

Updated over 2 months ago

Rapchat Distro is moving to Distrokid (learn more about here.) This guide will show you how to properly transfer your songs so that you keep your streams, saves, and playlists intact!

Step 1: Sign Up for DistroKid

If you haven’t already, sign up using one of these exclusive offers:

  • 🎁 75% off a Musician Plus plan for Distro users: log into distro.rapchat.com to access your link

  • 🎁 40% off a Musician plan for all other Rapchat users: Use this link

Step 2: Open Release Details

Go to distro.rapchat.com and select the first release that you want to transfer.

💡 Tip: Do this on a computer or mobile browser — not inside the Rapchat app — so you can easily copy and paste info.

Step 3: Start a New Upload

Open up Distrokid Make and tap Upload to start a new release. Follow the instructions below making sure to copy/paste the metadata exactly the same...

Services:

Choose as many as you want

Number of songs:

Always 1 (all Rapchat Distro releases were singles)

Monetize your single on social media?

This is an optional add-on but its up to you. But ONLY choose this option if you own 100% of the sounds

Has this single been previously released?

Say Yes and add the release date exactly matching what you see on your release details.

💡 You could select "No" if you want to start over with a new artist profile or reset your stream counts—if that is the case then there is no need to make sure all the other metadata below matches.

Artist/band name:

Use the exact same one from your Rapchat Distro artist profile

...then you select the right match from Spotify, Apple Music, and Youtube Music or add it manually. Instagram and Facebook if you have an artist profile there.

Record Label

Should always be Rapchat Records (but you can edit this later once it successfully transfers!)

Language

Default was always English unless you selected a different option

Genre

Only choose a primary genre (matching your release details), we never sent secondary genre's

Album Cover

Download from the release and use the same one (again you can always edit later)

Song Title

Just match your existing release title. Don't add featured artists or version info for now.

Upload Audio File

Download the audio file from your Distro and upload the same one.

🚨 IMPORTANT- tap on "Already have an ISRC code?" above the audio file and copy/pastte the ISRC from your Distro release

Dolby Atmos / Spatial Audio

Select "No"

Songwriter / Cover Song

Choose the option that you wrote the song

Songwriter(s) real names

If you recorded the song over a Rapchat Distro Beat make sure you add yourself as the "Lyrics" and the Producer as "Music." Otherwise just add yourself as "Music & Lyrics" because songs on Rapchat Distro did not have custom credits.

Explicit Lyrics

Match your release details

Is this a "radio edit"?

Should be "No"

Instrumental?

Should be "This song contains lyrics"

Preview Clip / Track Price

Leave these the same

Apple Music Credits

Add yourself as the Performer "Singing & vocals" and add the beat producer as
"Beat maker"

Extra's

These are all optional

Step 4: Add any royalties

Once you submit your release, go to Splits page on Distrokid and enter any splits—especially important if you used a Distro Beat! You can copy/paste their email from the release details page.

Step 5: Verify successful Distrokid upload and take down release from Rapchat Distro

⏳ After 1–2 weeks:

  • You’ll see two versions of your song live — that’s normal.

  • Once your new DistroKid version is verified on your artist page (streams, playlists, followers all intact)

  • If streams don’t match after 2+ weeks, double-check your ISRC and metadata.

Now you are ready to takedown the Rapchat Distro release!

✅ This ensures only your DistroKid version remains live. Now you can make edits to releases, group them into albums, etc.

Remember...

🔑 Add the ISRC Code! This step ensures Spotify, Apple Music, etc. connect your new upload to your existing streams and playlists.

⚠️ Exact match matters: punctuation, spacing, and capitalization must be identical or streaming platforms may treat it as a new song.

👉 If your song used a Distro Beat, add the producer’s name and email as a co-writer with 50% for music.

⏳ Wait for the Distrokid release to be live before you remove your Rapchat version
