Rapchat Distro is Moving to Distrokid – Here’s What You Need to Know

Updated over 2 months ago

Rapchat Distro helped thousands of artists get their music on Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming services. Moving forward, we’re focusing on what Rapchat does best—helping artists create, collaborate, and grow inside the app—while partnering with the industry leader in distribution: DistroKid.

To make this transition smooth, we’re giving every artist a way to migrate their releases to DistroKid. You have until the end of December to transfer your songs. During that time your songs will stay live and you will continue to get royalties, but you won't be able to release new tracks.

⚠️ Please migrate your songs before January 1, 2026. On this date, Rapchat-distributed releases will be taken down from stores.

How do I migrate to Distrokid?

1. Sign up for Distrokid using one of the special offers below:

  • 🎁 75% off a Musician Plus plan for Distro users: log into distro.rapchat.com to access your link

  • 🎁 40% off a Musician plan for all other Rapchat users: Use this link

2. Upload your songs to Distrokid.

  • Go to distro.rapchat.com where you can easily copy and paste all the data from your existing releases

⚠️ It's important that everything is exactly the same as it is in Rapchat Distro so we made it easy to download your files and copy and paste!

3. Wait 1-2 weeks for your songs to update then take them down from Rapchat Distro

  • You will see two copies of the release, which means its ready for you to take it down from Rapchat

4. Make sure you add a Paypal account to your Rapchat Distro wallet before March 1 to get any final royalty payouts

For more detailed instructions, please check out the Distro Migration Guide that includes a demo video and step-by-step instructions:

Why is Rapchat Distro going away?

We want to double down on what makes Rapchat unique: creating, collaborating, and connecting with your audience. DistroKid already offers the best-in-class tools for distribution that will help you to level up!

  • Unlimited uploads to all major platforms

  • Automatic Spotify verification (the blue checkmark on your artist profile)

  • More promotional tools to help you get discovered

  • Better analytics to understand your audience

  • Faster control over edits, splits, and release timing

What happens to my songs?

  • If you migrate before January 1: Your songs will stay live with no interruption once re-uploaded via DistroKid.

  • After January 1: Rapchat will remove all songs distributed through Rapchat Distro.

What happens to my royalties?

  • Any royalties earned while your songs were live on Rapchat Distro will still be paid out.

  • Stores report royalties on a delay (usually 2–3 months), so you may see payouts even after January 1.

  • Make sure your payment details are up to date in the Rapchat Wallet to receive your balance.

  • Final royalty payouts will be sent soon after March 1 as long as your balance has a linked Paypal account and is greater than the minimum threshold

Will I lose my streams, playlists, or followers?

When migrating to DistroKid:

  • Use the same ISRCs and UPCs from your Release Details in Rapchat.

  • Upload the same audio, cover art, and metadata.

This helps Spotify, Apple Music, and other DSPs match your new upload to your existing release so you can keep your streams, playlist placements, and follower data. (Each DSP has its own policies, but DistroKid will walk you through it.)

Will I still be able to access my old data?

Yes. You can still view release metadata and download files from the Distro Hub until the shutdown Jan 1.

What if I can’t find my ISRCs or UPCs?

Your Release Details page in Rapchat shows this information. If something is missing, start your DistroKid upload and follow their migration steps.

Can I keep releasing through Rapchat Distro?

No. All options to create, resubmit, or update Distro releases in Rapchat have been removed. New releases should go through DistroKid.

What if my song had a Distro Beat license?

If your song was released through Rapchat using a Distro Beat, make sure you add the producer's email to the splits and give them 50%.

Can I get a refund?

All Rapchat users that released music on Distro will will get a discounted membership with Distrokid for 40% off. If you have an annual subscription, you will get a deeper Distrokid discount (70% off) as well as continued access to all of the Rapchat benefits—like a premium profile, higher discoverability rankings, beat downloads, vocal FX, and more!
