Sharing AI Source for Distro Releases

Updated this week

If you're using AI tools to help create your music, it's important to follow the current requirements for distributing your songs to streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and more.

📝 Requirements for AI Songs

When submitting a song through Distro, you are required to:

  • Indicate whether AI was used in creating any part of the track (beat, vocals, lyrics, etc.)

  • Select the AI source used to generate the content

This information is submitted during the release process and is added to your song’s metadata and credits where applicable.

✅ Permitted AI Tools

Only AI tools that meet the following criteria are allowed:

  • The company has publicly disclosed how its models were trained

  • The training did not use unlicensed copyrighted material

Examples of permitted tools:

✍️ How to Add or Update AI Source

IMPORTANT: All existing AI songs need to have the AI source added by May 30 or they will be taken down.

Whether you’re submitting a new release or updating an existing one, here’s how to provide the required AI information:

  1. Open the release in the app

  2. Tap the three-dot menu (•••)

  3. Select Edit Release

  4. Under Beat/Instrumental Source, choose “Created with AI”

  5. Tap Continue

  6. Enter the name of the AI tool used

  7. Submit your edits

💡 Why This Matters

Disclosing your use of AI and using compliant tools helps protect your music, ensures it’s eligible for distribution, and supports a healthy, ethical music ecosystem. Songs with AI detected that are not properly labeled will be removed.
